Avatar: The Last Airbender is widely regarded as one of the best shows to have graced the screen. Animated shows are often looked down upon by the masses because people assume they’re targeted solely towards children. Avatar, however, managed to bewitch people of all ages with its intriguing plotlines, fleshed-out characters, and witty dialogue. Before Netflix’s upcoming Live-Action series hits our screens (and hoping it won’t be a travesty like their Cowboy Bebop adaptation), we wanted to show you all our favorite ATLA memes. Here are the best Avatar: The Last Airbender memes we could find.

Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Long ago the four nations lived together in — alright we’ll stop showing off. You probably have Katara’s monologue memorized too. We thought this meme was the best fit for kicking off our list.

Must. Restore. Honor.

Must. Restore. Honor.

Season one Zuko is the epitome of teenage angst. We say this in the most loving way possible. Zuko, of course, has his reasons for relentlessly chasing the Avatar. In his single-minded pursuit of restoring his honor, however, he nearly loses his sanity. While Zuko’s obsession with honor was frustrating at times, we did get numerous hilarious memes out of it.

That’s Rough, Buddy

That’s Rough, Buddy

The horrifying abuse Zuko suffered at the hands of his father took a massive toll on him. Even during season one, we get glimpses of empathy inside Zuko. He couldn’t reconcile with the kindness his mother taught him in light of the brutal pursuit of power that his father instilled in him. Hence it left his personality fractured. That doesn’t mean we won’t laugh at him, though.

Zuko Must be Protected at All Costs

When Sokka confides in Zuko about Yue we can see how much the latter wants to comfort his new friend. We could dive deep into Zuko’s character here, and analyze how he was never really taught how to process emotions or show empathy. If Ursa were around, maybe things would have been different. However, in that alternate world, we wouldn’t have gotten this iconic line, would we?

Nope Those Aren’t Tears. Someone Is Just Dicing Onions.

There are many complex themes explored in this show. We get to see the way abuse tears families apart, the complexities of war, and the political propaganda that often surrounds them. There are discussions about Iroh’s past as a general as well. When he sang Leaves From The Vine for his son and broke down, we cried too. The song was given an extra layer of depth when Mako Imawatsu, Iroh’s voice actor, passed away before the production of Book 3.

We refuse to acknowledge that catastrophe conjured up by M Night Shyamalan. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the Netflix adaptation will be worthy of the fandom’s seal of approval.

The First Time Aang Earthbends, and Digs His Own Grave

The First Time Aang Earthbends, and Digs His Own Grave

We feel sorry for Aang. He may be the Avatar, but he’s still a 12-year-old boy who has no idea how to talk to his crush. We’ve been there Aang, we’ve all been there. Katara’s exasperated expression speaks volumes.

When Your Body Ages Faster Than You Do

When Your Body Ages Faster Than You Do

Have you ever tried to get up and your knees refused to straighten? We really don’t understand why the human body gives us so much grief. We’re all new adults stuck in bodies that age much faster than us.

The person we said that embarrassing thing to that one time may have forgotten all about it, but our brains sure haven’t.
